MiniMeggs Takes Flight at White Cliffs

On Sunday, 31st August, we made history with the very first flight of MiniMeggs, our small but mighty test rocket. Out in the wide-open skies above White Cliffs, NSW, the launch marked a huge step forward for Sunburnt Space Co. as we put our systems to the test in real flight conditions.

This flight was about proving that all the pieces of our rocket program can work together in the harsh environment of the outback. From the launch operations to the recovery systems, everything was about learning, validating, and preparing for bigger rockets still to come.

The Flight

MiniMeggs lifted off cleanly on a commercial Hybrid M-class motor, roaring skyward to an about 2,600 feet. The flight gave us valuable real-world data and helped us shake down all the critical systems.

Key Technical Details

• Launch site: White Cliffs, NSW

• Date: Sunday, 31st August 2025

• Rocket: MiniMeggs (Sunburnt Space Co.)

• Motor: Commercial Hybrid M-class motor

• Target altitude: ~7,000 feet (the N2O tank did not fill correctly)

• Primary objectives:

  • Test parachute deployment

  • Validate avionics performance

  • Exercise recovery hardware

  • Prove launch and recovery operations in outback conditions

Why We’re Excited

This flight represents a major milestone in the development of our suborbital rocket program. For the first time, we’ve successfully brought together propulsion, avionics, recovery, and operations in a live environment. And it all worked.

MiniMeggs shows that our approach of moving quickly, keeping things simple, and learning by doing is working. Every successful test gets us closer to launching Meggs Jr, our suborbital rocket designed to push past the Kármán line.

We’re excited because this is no longer an idea on paper. With MiniMeggs flying, we’ve proven that Sunburnt Space Co. is building real rockets, taking real steps, and pushing Australia closer to space.
